A Novel Virus and a New Way to Learn

COVID-19, the novel corona virus and our government's response to contain it, is definitely new. So is the way we are going to adapt educationally to its presence nationwide. The irony is that it took a virus to push traditional educators, like me, into the 21st century. As the youth of today, I have to applaud you. You've been going to the world wide web for information, entertainment, camaraderie, and so much more for years. But we educators have struggled to adapt to an online platform that may ultimately prove to be even more effective than we could ever have imagined.

This blog is an opportunity to discuss and openly communicate about stories we read, ways to improve our writing, and how to move forward in an era that may be incredibly dependent on how well we communicate in writing. My hope is that we can use this space in the same way we would engage in a classroom discussion: with thoughtful consideration, a willingness to express viewpoints, and a continual effort to embrace the "aha" moment. I know I'm looking forward to communicating with you here and hope this novel way of delivering instruction allows more of you to engage in a new way in your education. I've always believed that to know better is to do better. I'm working hard to get better at finding new ways to deliver instruction. Are you ready to join me?
